Cannon Beach has a rich history of seasonal events that are great for families or a weekend getaway for two. With everything from large annual events like Sandcastle Day in June, to our Stormy Weather Arts Festival which focuses on the history of Cannon Beach as a premier art lover’s destination – you will find a local event that showcases our coastal community and provides guests with a unique experience.
Three full days of art and musical events make the Stormy Weather Arts Festival one of Cannon Beach’s most popular annual events. The 29th Annual Cannon Beach Stormy Weather Arts Festival November 4-6 includes a weekend full of arts and gallery events along with musical performances highlighted by a special concert featuring Grammy-nominated singer songwriter Ellen Whyte in the intimate setting of Cannon Beach’s Coaster Theatre. Popular festival events include Art in Action on Saturday night, an evening featuring talented artists creating works as you watch, along with music, food and a silent auction of unique experiences and travel packages. In its second year, the Dancing in the Rain Fashion Show on Saturday morning is a free runway show filled with stormy weather fashions from several local apparel stores and galleries. Sunday’s Brews, Blues & Barbeques will close the weekend with great food, local ales and live Delta-style Blues. Throughout the weekend, the town’s galleries will present special events showcasing the artists they represent, with many of the artists on hand to present their latest works, conduct demonstrations or discuss their work.

Some Haystack Holidays highlights include Mimosa Madness, Cannon Beach’s refreshing alternative to the craziness of Black Friday; a long time local tradition, the downtown Lamp Lighting Ceremony; and a special holiday concert. Cannon Beach offers the perfect holiday shopping season getaway with the picturesque village lit up festively and shops and galleries offering unique gift opportunities. Of course, when your shopping is done, you can enjoy the spectacular Oregon Coast during a season like no other.
Cannon Beach will host its 52nd annual Sandcastle Contest Saturday, June 11, the oldest competition of its kind in the Pacific Northwest and the most popular event in Cannon Beach. Dozens of teams of professional sand sculpture artists, amateur groups and families will construct remarkable creations in the sand during the event. The Masters division teams compete for cash prizes and construct large, elaborate creations often utilizing construction forms similar to those used for pouring concrete in order to accomplish their monumental size. Although the contest on Saturday is the highlight of the weekend, visitors will find plenty of other activities to keep them busy.
